Filemaker Pro 12 Serial Number This Week

filemaker pro 12 serial number this week

But to use FileMaker Pro, you need a valid license certificate or license key, also known as a serial number. A serial number is a unique code that identifies your copy of FileMaker Pro and allows you to activate it on your computer. Without a serial number, you won't be able to use FileMaker Pro or access its features.

So how do you get a FileMaker Pro 12 serial number this week? And what if you need to reset or change your serial number? And what if you want to upgrade to the latest version of FileMaker Pro? In this article, we will answer all these questions and more. Read on to find out everything you need to know about FileMaker Pro 12 serial numbers.

How to locate your license certificate or license key

The first step to using FileMaker Pro is to locate your license certificate or license key. Depending on how you purchased or obtained FileMaker Pro, there are different ways to do this. Here are some common scenarios and how to find your serial number in each case.

For boxed product, electronic software download, and volume licensing

If you purchased a boxed version of FileMaker Pro from a store or online retailer, your serial number is on the card located inside the box. If you purchased FileMaker Pro as a download from the Claris Store website, you received an email with a link to your Electronic Software Download page. Your license certificate file is available from that page and on Subscription > Downloads tab in Claris Customer Console. If you purchased FileMaker Pro via volume licensing, your license certificate file is also available on Subscription > Downloads tab in Claris Customer Console.

For FileMaker Pro (for User Connections)

If you purchased FileMaker Pro (for User Connections), which allows you to connect to FileMaker Server or FileMaker Cloud using concurrent connections, your serial number is located in the Assisted Install file. The Assisted Install file is located inside the FileMaker Pro (for User Connections) installer .exe or disk image.

For FileMaker Cloud

If you purchased FileMaker Cloud, which is a cloud-based platform for hosting and managing your custom apps, you don't need a serial number for FileMaker Pro. Instead, you need a Claris ID account and a subscription plan. The Home page of the Claris Customer Console includes a link to the Subscription > Downloads tab, where you can download FileMaker Pro and the license certificate needed for installation. Your FileMaker Cloud License Key is also displayed on the Subscription > Summary tab of the Claris Customer Console.

How to reset your auto-enter serial number in FileMaker Pro How to reset your auto-enter serial number in FileMaker Pro

Another situation where you might need to deal with serial numbers in FileMaker Pro is when you want to reset your auto-enter serial number. An auto-enter serial number is a field option that automatically assigns a unique number to each record in your database. This can be useful for tracking, sorting, and referencing your records.

However, sometimes you might want to change the starting value, increment, or format of your auto-enter serial number. For example, you might want to start from a higher number, add a prefix or suffix, or use a different number system. In that case, you need to reset your auto-enter serial number settings and update the existing records with the new values.

There are three ways to do this in FileMaker Pro: manually, using "Replace Field Contents", or using a script. Let's look at each method in detail.

Change the auto-enter serial number settings manually

The simplest way to change the auto-enter serial number settings is to do it manually. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Open your database file and go to the layout where the field with the auto-enter serial number is located.

  • Enter Layout mode by choosing View > Layout Mode or pressing Command-L (Mac) or Ctrl-L (Windows).

  • Select the field with the auto-enter serial number and choose File > Manage > Database.

  • In the Manage Database dialog box, click on the Fields tab and select the field name from the list.

  • Click on Options and then on the Auto-Enter tab.

  • In the Serial Number section, you can change the next value, increment by, and display format of your auto-enter serial number. You can also check or uncheck the options to prohibit modification of value during data entry and generate UUID.

  • Click OK to close the Options dialog box and then OK again to close the Manage Database dialog box.

  • Return to Browse mode by choosing View > Browse Mode or pressing Command-B (Mac) or Ctrl-B (Windows).

Note that changing the auto-enter serial number settings manually will only affect new records that you create after making the changes. Existing records will still have the old values. To update them, you need to use one of the other methods below.

Change the auto-enter serial number settings using "Replace Field Contents"

A faster way to change the auto-enter serial number settings and update existing records is to use the "Replace Field Contents" command. This command allows you to replace the contents of a field for all records in a found set with a specified value. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Open your database file and go to the layout where the field with the auto-enter serial number is located.

  • Enter Find mode by choosing View > Find Mode or pressing Command-F (Mac) or Ctrl-F (Windows).

  • Perform a find request that will return all records that you want to update. For example, you can enter "*" in any field to find all records in your database.

  • Enter Browse mode by choosing View > Browse Mode or pressing Command-B (Mac) or Ctrl-B (Windows).

  • Select the field with the auto-enter serial number and choose Records > Replace Field Contents.

  • In the Replace Field Contents dialog box, choose Serial numbers from the Specify drop-down menu.

  • In the Serial Number Options dialog box, you can change the next value, increment by, and display format of your auto-enter serial number. You can also check or uncheck the options to prohibit modification of value during data entry and generate UUID.

  • Click OK to close the Serial Number Options dialog box and then Replace to close the Replace Field Contents dialog box.

Note that using "Replace Field Contents" will permanently overwrite the existing values in your field. Make sure you have a backup of your database file before performing this operation. Also, be careful not to replace values in fields that are used as primary keys or foreign keys in relationships, as this might break your database structure and functionality.

Change the auto-enter serial number settings using a script

The most flexible way to change the auto-enter serial number settings and update existing records is to use a script. A script is a series of steps that FileMaker Pro performs automatically when triggered by an event, such as opening a file, clicking a button, or entering a layout. You can create and edit scripts using the Script Workspace.

To change the auto-enter serial number settings using a script, you need to use two script steps: Set Next Serial Value and Set Field[^ The Set Next Serial Value script step allows you to specify the next value and increment for an auto-enter serial number field. The Set Field script step allows you to assign a value to a field in the current record. By combining these two script steps, you can create a script that will change the auto-enter serial number settings and update existing records. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Open your database file and go to the layout where the field with the auto-enter serial number is located.

  • Enter Script Workspace by choosing Scripts > Script Workspace or pressing Command-Shift-S (Mac) or Ctrl-Shift-S (Windows).

  • Click on the New button to create a new script.

  • In the Script Name dialog box, enter a name for your script, such as "Reset Serial Number". Click OK.

  • In the Script Steps pane, type "Set Next Serial Value" and double-click on it to add it to your script.

  • In the Specify Target Field dialog box, select the field with the auto-enter serial number from the list and click OK.

  • In the Specify Calculation dialog box, enter the next value and increment for your auto-enter serial number, separated by a semicolon. For example, if you want to start from 1000 and increment by 10, enter "1000; 10". Click OK.

  • In the Script Steps pane, type "Set Field" and double-click on it to add it to your script.

  • In the Specify Target Field dialog box, select the same field with the auto-enter serial number from the list and click OK.

  • In the Specify Calculation dialog box, enter a calculation that will assign a new value to your field based on your desired format. For example, if you want to add a prefix of "SN-" and a suffix of "-FM", enter "\"SN-\" & Get ( RecordNumber ) * 10 + 990 & \"-FM\"". Click OK.

  • In the Script Steps pane, select both script steps and click on the Gear icon. Choose "Perform without dialog" from the drop-down menu. This will prevent any dialogs from interrupting your script execution.

  • Click on Save to save your script.

Note that this script will only update one record at a time. To update all records in a found set, you need to add a loop to your script. A loop is a series of steps that repeats until a condition is met. Here are the additional steps to follow:

  • In the Script Steps pane, type "Go to Record/Request/Page" and double-click on it to add it to your script.

  • In the Options section, choose "First" from the drop-down menu. This will make your script start from the first record in your found set.

  • Drag this script step to the top of your script, before the Set Next Serial Value step.

  • In the Script Steps pane, type "Loop" and double-click on it to add it to your script.

  • Drag this script step below the Set Field step.

  • In the Script Steps pane, type "Go to Record/Request/Page" and double-click on it to add it to your script.

  • In the Options section, choose "Next" from the drop-down menu and check the "Exit after last" option. This will make your script go to the next record in your found set and exit the loop when there are no more records.

  • Drag this script step below the Loop step.

  • In the Script Steps pane, type "End Loop" and double-click on it to add it to your script.

  • Drag this script step below the Go to Record/Request/Page step.

Your final script should look something like this:

Go to Record/Request/Page [First] Set Next Serial Value [Table::SerialNumber; "1000; 10"] Set Field [Table::SerialNumber; "SN-" & Get ( RecordNumber ) * 10 + 990 & "-FM"] Loop Go to Record/Request/Page [Next; Exit after last] Set Next Serial Value [Table::SerialNumber; "1000; 10"] Set Field [Table::SerialNumber; "SN-" & Get ( RecordNumber ) * 10 + 990 & "-FM"] End Loop

To run your script, you can either click on the Run button in the Script Workspace or attach it to a button or trigger on your layout. Make sure you have a backup of your database file before running your script, as it will permanently overwrite the existing values in your field. Also, be careful not to run your script on fields that are used as primary keys or foreign keys in relationships, as this might break your database structure and functionality.
